Travel Weekly
Catalonia Riviera Maya Resort & Spa operates within Puerto Aventuras — a self-contained, gated marina community about 80 km south of Cancun (roughly 80 minutes by transfer). The resort's 423 rooms share facilities with adjacent Catalonia Yucatan Beach, giving guests access to a total of 628 rooms worth of pools, restaurants, and beach. This combined setup means more dining variety and more pools than a single 423-room property would normally offer.
The beach entry is the most important practical detail: the ocean floor here has rocks and reef. Water shoes are not optional — they are necessary for comfortable swimming and snorkeling. The reef that makes entry uncomfortable also creates good snorkeling conditions, and sea turtles are regularly sighted directly off the beach. This is an unusual amenity for an all-inclusive beach.
Puerto Aventuras itself adds context: the community has a marina, a dolphin discovery facility, a golf course, and a small row of shops and restaurants. Guests can explore safely on foot within the gates, which appeals to families who want activities beyond the resort perimeter. The gated location does mean an approximately 80-minute transfer from Cancun airport.
Food quality is described as above-average with particular praise for the Japanese à la carte restaurant and the B-Loved specialty option. Securing à la carte reservations is a persistent challenge — plan ahead. Rooms are comfortable and well-maintained, though standard guests lack room service (a Privileged-only benefit). A Quiet 'Privilege' pool exists for adults seeking a calm alternative to the main activity pools.
