  • Noise from Evening Entertainment

The volume of evening shows can be disruptive for guests in nearby rooms, with some describing it as 'unbearable' and impacting their ability to relax quietly.

  • Windy Pool Area

Due to the hotel's open layout, the pool area can experience significant wind, which some guests find uncomfortable, though the hotel cannot directly control the climate.

Overview

Barceló Playa Blanca is brand new by resort standards — soft opening December 2023, official inauguration February 2024. As the largest hotel on Lanzarote, it covers 100,000 sq m of seafront property in Playa Blanca's southern tip, 100 meters from the fine-sand Playa Dorada beach. There are no renovation caveats because there's nothing to renovate yet. What you get is a clean-slate resort with modern infrastructure at a price point that still competes with older properties.

The architectural concept draws from Lanzarote's volcanic landscape and César Manrique, the island's defining artist who shaped its aesthetic for decades. This isn't superficial branding — the whitewashed geometry and volcanic stone detailing reflect genuine local visual culture. The Royal Level Adults Only section (18+) operates as a separate zone within the main hotel, with its own restaurant (Magical Restaurant), bar, heated infinity pool, and swim-up rooms. Guests who book it get the equivalent of a boutique adults-only resort within a larger family property.

The primary limitation for most guests is that the two à la carte specialty restaurants — KOI (Japanese/Nikkei) and México Lindo — cost extra despite the all-inclusive rate. The included dining is buffet-only at the Atlantic Buffet Restaurant. The Royal Level's Magical Restaurant adds à la carte lunch and buffet dinner for those guests. If dining variety matters to you, budget for at least two specialty restaurant dinners or book Royal Level.

Practically: 720 rooms in total, 132 of which are Royal Level. Standard rooms run 323 sq ft; suites in the Royal Level reach 474–600 sq ft. Lanzarote Airport (ACE) is 28–29 km away, about a 30-minute drive. Playa Dorada is the immediate beach option; Punta Papagayo's protected coves are 6 km away and worth an excursion for snorkeling.

As a 2024 opening, the resort hasn't built up years of guest review data. Early feedback suggests the 180-meter pool is the property's standout feature and the children's heated splash pool with pirate ship is genuinely popular. Teething issues — unfamiliar staff routines, menu inconsistencies — may improve as the property matures.

Pros

  • +The 180-meter main infinity pool is a legitimate scale upgrade over standard all-inclusive pool setups — enough space for 720 rooms without crowding.
  • +Brand new infrastructure (2024) means no aging plumbing, dated decor, or maintenance backlog — everything is first-generation new.
  • +The Royal Level operates as a genuinely separate adults-only zone, not just a cordoned-off pool section.
  • +Playa Dorada is 100 meters away with calm, wave-protected water — beach access doesn't require a shuttle or walk.
  • +The Teen Club and Barcy Club cover children ages 4–16, leaving minimal age gaps in supervised programming.

Cons

  • −Both specialty à la carte restaurants (KOI and México Lindo) cost extra despite the all-inclusive rate — included dining is buffet-only.
  • −As a 2024-opening property, the guest review record is thin and staff routines are still developing — early stays may encounter inconsistencies that improve as the property matures.
  • −Royal Level room service is not available to standard room guests — a meaningful limitation if late-night dining matters.
  • −The 30-minute airport transfer is mid-range for Lanzarote — not the closest option if minimizing travel time is important.
  • −Land sports courts require extra-charge rentals — a step back from all-inclusives that cover court access.

Tips

  • Book KOI or México Lindo reservations at reception on check-in day — the extra charge is worth at least one specialty dinner over a standard buffet run.
  • If traveling with children under 10, book rooms in the main hotel section close to the Barcy kids area and splash pool rather than the Royal Level end.
  • Arrange the Timanfaya National Park excursion for a mid-stay day — it's one of Lanzarote's most genuinely unique experiences and the tour takes half a day.
  • Morning at the main pool before 10 AM is substantially quieter — get there early for the best lounger positions.
  • Papagayo beaches require a car or taxi and a small access fee — plan it as a beach day rather than a brief visit.
