Open Bathroom Design

Barceló Playa Blanca is brand new by resort standards — soft opening December 2023, official inauguration February 2024. As the largest hotel on Lanzarote, it covers 100,000 sq m of seafront property in Playa Blanca's southern tip, 100 meters from the fine-sand Playa Dorada beach. There are no renovation caveats because there's nothing to renovate yet. What you get is a clean-slate resort with modern infrastructure at a price point that still competes with older properties.
The architectural concept draws from Lanzarote's volcanic landscape and César Manrique, the island's defining artist who shaped its aesthetic for decades. This isn't superficial branding — the whitewashed geometry and volcanic stone detailing reflect genuine local visual culture. The Royal Level Adults Only section (18+) operates as a separate zone within the main hotel, with its own restaurant (Magical Restaurant), bar, heated infinity pool, and swim-up rooms. Guests who book it get the equivalent of a boutique adults-only resort within a larger family property.
The primary limitation for most guests is that the two à la carte specialty restaurants — KOI (Japanese/Nikkei) and México Lindo — cost extra despite the all-inclusive rate. The included dining is buffet-only at the Atlantic Buffet Restaurant. The Royal Level's Magical Restaurant adds à la carte lunch and buffet dinner for those guests. If dining variety matters to you, budget for at least two specialty restaurant dinners or book Royal Level.
Practically: 720 rooms in total, 132 of which are Royal Level. Standard rooms run 323 sq ft; suites in the Royal Level reach 474–600 sq ft. Lanzarote Airport (ACE) is 28–29 km away, about a 30-minute drive. Playa Dorada is the immediate beach option; Punta Papagayo's protected coves are 6 km away and worth an excursion for snorkeling.
As a 2024 opening, the resort hasn't built up years of guest review data. Early feedback suggests the 180-meter pool is the property's standout feature and the children's heated splash pool with pirate ship is genuinely popular. Teething issues — unfamiliar staff routines, menu inconsistencies — may improve as the property matures.
