Exceptional Staff
Guests consistently praise the resort's staff for their amazing, polite, and attentive service, often noting their willingness to go "above and beyond" to enhance stays.
Tranquil Adults-Only Vibe
The quiet, relaxed, and intimate adults-only atmosphere is a significant draw, offering a peaceful escape from party crowds and children.
Access to Grand Complex
The efficient trolley system provides easy access to a wider variety of pools, restaurants, and entertainment at sister resorts, adding diverse options without disturbing Sian Ka'an's serenity.
Quality Buffets & Select Dining
The buffets receive high marks for their fresh, international cuisines, and specific à la carte restaurants like Maiko are often highlighted for their excellent food.
Lush Jungle Environment
The resort's tropical, jungle-y setting is highly appreciated for providing abundant shade, a secluded feel, and a unique atmosphere.
Dated Rooms & Facilities
Many guests note that rooms and some resort facilities appear old or worn, with issues like stained sheets or cracking spa tubs detracting from a luxury experience.
Beach Distance & Quality
The resort is not beachfront, requiring a trolley ride; the private beach section can be rocky and is often not ideal for swimming, making water shoes advisable.
Drinks Quality
A common complaint centers on the quality of alcoholic cocktails, which guests often perceive as having very little alcohol or tasting cheap.
Inconsistent À La Carte & Booking
While some à la carte dining is praised, others receive mixed reviews, and guests sometimes report difficulties booking reservations through the resort's app.

Golf Digest magazine
Bahia Principe Luxury Sian Ka'an is the adults-only (18+) property in the Bahia Principe Riviera Maya complex—inland, within the Mayan jungle, without a beach attached to the property itself. The beach is a 15-minute shuttle ride away. This is a deliberate trade: what you give up is direct sand access; what you get is an unusually quiet, green, and genuinely secluded resort environment that the beachfront properties in the same complex cannot replicate.
The property is designed for couples and adults seeking a laid-back luxury stay rather than an activity-heavy vacation. The four pools (some with integrated whirlpool baths), the quietest buffet in the complex (Yal-Ku), the Japanese restaurant Maiko, and the adults-only Alux gourmet venue are the main dining and recreation draws. PGA Riviera Maya Golf Club is adjacent with a guest discount—the most serious golfer amenity in the complex.
The exchange privilege ('Stay at 1, Play at 4') extends dining and pool access across Grand Tulum, Grand Coba, and Luxury Akumal—effectively giving guests the activity options of a much larger resort while keeping the Sian Ka'an property itself quiet. The trolley system running across the complex is the practical connector.
Honest limitations: rooms are dated. Multiple reviews describe cracking spa tubs, stained sheets, visible wear, and facilities showing their age. The 2011 Origen renovation has not kept pace with newer properties. Cocktail quality is a consistent complaint—low alcohol content and cheap mixes appear across multiple reviews. The beach section requires a trolley or walk, and some areas are rocky.
Practically: inland jungle setting, 92–97 km from Cancun International Airport (about 1 hour 22 minutes), 89 km from Tulum Airport (about 1 hour). Adults 18+ only. No kids or teen clubs.
