Exceptional Staff
Guests consistently laud the staff for their friendliness, attentiveness, and helpfulness across all resort areas, from dining to entertainment.
Quality & Variety of Food
The extensive buffet selections and diverse a la carte options receive high praise for their quality and deliciousness, satisfying a wide range of tastes.
Immaculate Grounds
The resort's beautiful landscaping, well-maintained common areas, and overall cleanliness significantly contribute to a pleasant and picturesque atmosphere.
Relaxing Adult-Only Vibe
The exclusive adults-only environment is a major draw, offering a peaceful and tranquil escape ideal for couples seeking relaxation.
Comfortable Rooms
Rooms are appreciated for their spaciousness, comfort, and amenities, including features like four-poster beds and private spa baths.
Beach Quality
The beach water is often described as murky and not ideal for swimming or snorkeling, frequently disappointing guests expecting clear Caribbean waters and sometimes containing jellyfish.
Room Maintenance & Decor
Some guests report minor but recurring maintenance issues like leaks or non-functional minibars, and suggest that room decor could benefit from modern updates.
Restaurant Reservations
Securing desired reservations at the specialty a la carte restaurants can be challenging, requiring guests to book very early, often upon arrival or even in advance via the app.
Location & Transfers
The resort's relatively isolated location in La Romana means longer transfer times from Punta Cana airport and limited nearby excursion options, impacting those seeking off-resort exploration.
Dietary Needs
Guests with specific dietary restrictions, particularly vegetarians and vegans, may find options limited or staff less knowledgeable about their requirements.

Bahia Principe Luxury Bouganville is the adults-only Luxury-tier counterpart to the Grand La Romana on the same La Romana complex. Built in 2013, it sits within an all-inclusive campus that also houses the PGA Ocean's 4 golf course. The four-poster beds and spa bath rooms are the most frequently praised specific amenity — they give rooms a more distinctive character than the standard all-inclusive design.
The La Romana location provides proximity to Altos de Chavón (about 20 minutes), the Casa de Campo marina, and Santo Domingo (51 minutes) — giving this resort genuine off-site excursion potential that Bavaro resorts can't match without a 2-hour drive. La Romana International Airport is approximately 25 minutes away.
The beach situation is the same as at the Grand La Romana: ocean water near La Romana is murky due to a nearby river. The beach water is not clear Caribbean turquoise and is generally not suitable for ocean swimming. The pools are the primary swimming option at both properties. The Santana Beach access is available but should be treated as sunbathing rather than a swim beach.
Room maintenance notes appear — leaky bathrooms, non-functioning minibars, some dated decor. These are less consistent than at older properties but worth flagging. The Takara Oriental Restaurant gets specifically called out in reviews for interesting cooking.
