Exceptional Staff Service
Guests consistently praise the amazing, friendly, and wonderful staff for their attentive service across all areas, often going above and beyond to ensure a pleasant stay.
Diverse & High-Quality Food
The resort offers an impressive array of high-quality food, with both the main buffet and specialty à la carte restaurants, especially the Brazilian, receiving high marks for taste and variety.
Family-Friendly Amenities
Families highly value the fantastic Kids Club, engaging children's water park, and diverse activities that cater to younger guests, making it an ideal destination for families.
Beautiful Grounds & Pools
The resort boasts beautifully maintained grounds and expansive, well-kept pools, providing a pleasant and relaxing environment for guests to enjoy.
Dated Room Condition
Many guests report that the rooms are visibly old and worn, with furniture and fixtures needing refurbishment despite being spacious and generally clean.
Resort Size & Beach Access
The large size of the resort requires frequent use of internal shuttles, especially for reaching the beach, which is not directly adjacent to the Coba section.
Remote Location
The resort's secluded setting means that off-site excursions and trips to nearby towns incur significant and often costly taxi fares.
Limited Exchange Privileges
While guests can access à la carte restaurants at Grand Tulum and Tequila, full access to all facilities or buffets at sister resorts is not included for Grand Coba guests unless specified by membership.

Bahia Principe Grand Coba is one of the largest all-inclusive resorts in the Riviera Maya, covering 1,080 rooms spread across 30 three-story villas on extensive jungle grounds. The property's most practical advantage is the 'Stay at 1, Play at More' arrangement: Coba guests can eat at the specialty restaurants of sister properties Grand Tulum and Grand Tequila, expanding the dining network to 14+ restaurants across the complex. The on-site PGA Riviera Maya golf course — ranked by Golf Digest — is the other specific reason to choose Coba over comparably priced Riviera Maya all-inclusives.
Families with children aged 4–12 are the clearest fit. The Bahia Scouts water park, the kids club programme (cooking classes, crafts, sports), and the teen club have all been specifically praised in guest reviews. Adults travelling without children can enjoy this resort, but the family-forward design is inescapable at the pools and entertainment venues.
The most consistent honest criticism is the room quality: described across recent reviews as outdated with worn furniture, cracked tile grout, and occasional maintenance issues like non-working phones. The 'Origen' renovation branding exists, but evidently hasn't reached all accommodation blocks. The beach is a separate issue — it's a 5-minute shuttle ride from the main resort, and the beach itself has erosion with sandbags visible. This is not a beachfront resort in practice.
The resort sits approximately 92 km from Cancún International Airport (CUN), about 90 minutes by road — longer than most Cancún-strip resorts. The resort's size means you'll depend on the internal shuttle system to get anywhere efficiently. 1,080 rooms across the villa layout makes this one of the largest individual properties in the Riviera Maya.
