ZEL, the lifestyle hotel brand created by Meliá Hotels International and tennis legend Rafael Nadal, is heading to Cozumel this fall with a full all-inclusive conversion of the former Meliá Cozumel resort. The property, called ZEL Cozumel, will feature 209 rooms and suites along a 1,000-foot stretch of white-sand beach overlooking the Mexican Caribbean.

The opening marks a significant expansion for the young brand. ZEL launched its first property in Punta Cana in early 2025 — Zel Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic — and Cozumel will be its first all-inclusive in Mexico and just its second resort in the Americas.

The resort is undergoing a top-to-bottom renovation and repositioning. Meliá describes the concept as a blend of Mediterranean lifestyle and Caribbean energy, built around movement, outdoor living, and shared meals. Nadal helped shape the brand identity, and Cozumel's active, outdoorsy spirit fits the concept well.

Dining options will include Volcán, a grilled-meat restaurant with an asador-inspired setting, Neguri, and Parda Beach Club, a beachfront venue mixing Mediterranean food with Caribbean atmosphere. The wellness program centers on AUA Spa and a Training Studio with modern fitness equipment, plus group yoga and meditation sessions.

Location is one of the property's strongest selling points. ZEL Cozumel sits in the island's northern hotel zone, minutes from both the airport and downtown San Miguel. That means short transfers and easy access to the island's restaurants, shops, and legendary diving sites.

Cozumel is also a hub for endurance events, with Ironman 70.3, Ironman Cozumel, and Oceanman all scheduled for 2026 — a natural tie-in for a brand that leans heavily into active travel.

Rates at the current Meliá Cozumel start around $188 per night. ZEL pricing has not been announced, but the brand's Punta Cana property runs about $223 per night in summer. Nonstop flights to Cozumel are available from Houston, Dallas, Miami, and other U.S. cities, with connections also possible through Cancun and a ferry from Playa del Carmen on the Riviera Maya.
