Sun Peaks Triples Stored Snow With November Ski Trips in Mind

Sun Peaks targets November 21 for public skiing after expanding snow storage, while Sun Peaks Grand guests should check ongoing wellness work before arrival.

Sun Peaks has tripled its snow-storage programme ahead of a planned November 21, 2026, public opening, giving travellers considering Sun Peaks Grand Hotel and Conference Centre a fresh winter-planning update. The resort's October 26 announcement describes how saved snow is being used for early race training while other snowmaking resources support public terrain.

The important booking distinction is the calendar: athletes are due to begin using the race centre on November 6, while the public opening is scheduled later. An early training milestone should not be treated as confirmation that holiday skiing is available on the same date.

How does stored snow affect the season's start?

Sun Peaks says it preserved three snow piles of roughly 17,000 cubic metres each, retaining about 80 to 85 percent through the warmer months. That snow is being directed to the Nancy Greene International Race Centre.

The resort says the approach frees snowmaking resources for areas including the 5 Mile run and beginner zones. It is also continuing a six-year, $5.5 million snowmaking upgrade. These are preparations for operating the mountain, rather than a promise that every run will be ready on opening day.

For an early-season stay, check the actual terrain report close to departure. Beginners, families and confident skiers may need different parts of the mountain to be operating for the trip to work as intended.

What else changes for a family visit?

The resort says all four newer Kids Adventure Zones are fully built for this winter. An eight-passenger snowcat cabin is also intended to let non-skiers descend 5 Mile after the Alpine Fondue experience.

That offers a useful option for mixed groups, but guests should confirm operating dates and reservations rather than assuming the experience runs every evening. Match any activity booking to the days actually spent at the resort.

What should Sun Peaks Grand guests check?

The hotel's Wellness Centre remains in a multi-phase renovation first announced in September. Its current notice says the outdoor pool and hot tubs stay available during the indoor phase, with access rerouted. The existing sauna is temporarily unavailable.

The indoor phase targets completion before the winter season, with additional outdoor improvements planned for 2027. Ask the hotel for the position on your arrival date if post-ski pool or sauna time is a deciding factor.

A room booking and a mountain opening forecast answer different questions. Before paying for a November trip, check the accommodation terms, lift arrangements and which facilities each member of the group needs.
