Nobu Hospitality will open Nobu Hotel and Restaurant San Juan in 2028, bringing the brand's second Caribbean hotel and its first Puerto Rico property to one of the region's most visited historic cities.

The planned hotel will have about 50 rooms, a signature Nobu restaurant and bar at street level, and a rooftop lounge and bar. Nobu framed the project as an intimate luxury stay that mixes San Juan's colonial character with the brand's calm, contemporary design and omotenashi-style service.

Why San Juan, and why now

Puerto Rico already draws strong leisure demand from the U.S. mainland, and Old San Juan and the surrounding waterfront continue to add boutique and luxury inventory. Nobu CEO Trevor Horwell called Puerto Rico one of the Caribbean's most compelling destinations for history, culture, and hospitality, and said the San Juan project lets Nobu join a storied neighborhood rather than build a remote island compound.

Developer partner KTT, through managing partner Joakim Lehmkuhl, described the hotel as the kind of investment San Juan's dining and design scene has been ready for. For travelers, the practical difference versus Nobu's Barbuda beach project is urban: this stay is built around city walks, galleries, and a street-level dining room, not a barefoot private-island villa.

What guests should expect

Details on exact address, room categories, and rate inclusions are still limited. What is confirmed is the mix of a compact hotel, an iconic Nobu restaurant, and a rooftop concept. That format matches other Nobu city hotels more closely than a large Caribbean all-inclusive, so guests should plan for a la carte dining and nightlife rather than a packaged meal plan.

Food remains the brand's primary draw. Travelers who already book Nobu for the restaurant may find the San Juan rooftop and street-level dining room usable even without a hotel reservation once open, but hotel guests will get the easiest access to rooms, service, and any member or partner rates that appear later.

If you are tracking Nobu's Caribbean expansion, treat 2028 as a planning horizon, not an open booking window. Watch for reservation dates, loyalty partnerships if any are announced, and how the rooftop and restaurant calendars will work for non-hotel guests. Until then, San Juan travelers still have a growing boutique and luxury set to choose from while Nobu builds out its first Puerto Rico stay.
