Montara Hotel, Tapestry Collection by Hilton is now open in the hills of Heredia, Costa Rica. Hilton announced the September 24 debut as the lifestyle brand's first hotel in Costa Rica and Central America, folding a longtime local mountain retreat into the Hilton Honors network.

The property is not an all-inclusive beach resort. It is a 97-room hill retreat with 38 suites across roughly 540,000 square feet of grounds, about 13 miles from Juan Santamaria International Airport and downtown San Jose. For guests building a Costa Rica itinerary, that location makes Montara a practical first or last night before or after beach and rainforest legs.

What the stay actually includes

Rooms lean into valley views, private balconies, and outdoor firepits, with interiors built around warm wood and open windows. Dining runs through four concepts: Bosco for seasonal Costa Rican cooking tied to local producers and an on-site garden; Santoro, a steakhouse with an open kitchen; the 1998 Lobby Bar; and a juice bar near the pool and fitness areas.

Wellness is a major pitch. The spa spans about 13,200 square feet, with hydrotherapy, facial therapies, open-air decks, meditation spaces, and private nature trails. Event space totals roughly 12,700 square feet for retreats, weddings, and celebrations, which matters for groups that want a Central Valley base rather than a beachfront ballroom.

Why Hilton Honors members should care

Direct Hilton bookings unlock Honors benefits, including points earning and redemption, member discounts, and app-based tools. Tapestry Collection is designed to feel more independent than a standard chain hotel while still sitting inside Hilton's loyalty and service stack. That combination is useful if you already collect Hilton points for beach all-inclusives elsewhere in the Caribbean and Latin America and want a mountain stop that does not break the loyalty chain.

Hilton says it now operates 315 hotels and resorts across more than 35 countries and territories in the Caribbean and Latin America, with about 150 more in the regional pipeline. Montara is a lifestyle and wellness play, not a new all-inclusive flag, but it fills a clear gap for travelers who fly into San Jose and want a polished overnight before heading to La Fortuna, Tortuguero, or the coasts.

How to use it on a real trip

Book Montara when your flight lands late or when you want a quiet recovery night after a long journey. Nearby day-trip options include Braulio Carrillo National Park, Poas Volcano, and La Paz Waterfall Gardens. Sustainability details called out at opening include solar panels for self-consumption, LED lighting, wastewater reuse for irrigation, rainwater collection, and hydration stations meant to cut single-use plastics.

If your Costa Rica plan is beach-only all-inclusive from arrival to departure, Montara may be optional. If you want a design-forward, points-friendly Central Valley stay with spa time and valley views, the hotel is open and bookable now through Hilton channels.
