This Hotel Giant Has 187 Properties in Mexico — and It's About to Nearly Double Its Growth Pace
IHG Hotels & Resorts is accelerating its Mexico expansion with 62 hotels in the pipeline, a new regional HQ in Guadalajara, and plans to nearly double its growth rate.
IHG Hotels & Resorts is making an aggressive push into Mexico, announcing plans to nearly double its growth pace across the country over the coming years. The hotel group currently operates 187 properties with 30,000 rooms — making Mexico its fifth-largest market globally — and has 62 additional hotels totaling 8,600 rooms in the development pipeline.
The expansion touches nearly every tier of the company's portfolio. Recent openings include a Holiday Inn Express in Mexico City's Condesa neighborhood, a Crowne Plaza in Mérida, and the market debut of Garner, IHG's midscale conversion brand, in Mazatlán. Six voco-branded hotels have been signed across Cancún, Guadalajara, Ciudad Juárez, and other cities, while a Six Senses resort in Xala is projected for 2027.
On the corporate side, IHG is opening a new regional headquarters for its Mexico, Latin America, and Caribbean division in Guadalajara this spring. The office is set to grow from 40 employees to 200 by year's end — a signal of how seriously the company views the region.
Mexico's tourism sector has been on a tear, with record-breaking visitor numbers in 2025 and the 2026 FIFA World Cup adding even more momentum. IHG has been in the country for over 50 years, dating back to a Holiday Inn in Acapulco in 1970, but the current pipeline represents a significant acceleration. With luxury debuts like the InterContinental Miyana Mexico City on the horizon, IHG is clearly betting that Mexico's hospitality market has room to run.
