This Montego Bay Resort Is Turning a Golf Trip Into a Week of Elite Coaching — and Reviving a Charity Classic

Half Moon, the 400-acre resort east of Montego Bay, is rebuilding its golf program around three ideas: elite instruction, unlimited rounds, and a charity tournament with two decades of history behind it.

The relaunched Guest Instructor Series brings visiting teachers into a multi-day residency format. Canadian instructor Nick Starchuk opens the series from Sept. 22 through 29 with private lessons, full-day coaching, and on-course "Hit & Play" sessions. Former PGA Tour professional Brian Mogg, who has coached more than 30 tour winners, follows Dec. 10 through 16 with private instruction and a two-day golf school. More names are planned for early 2027.

The resort's Founders Cup returns Dec. 12. The scramble-format event has raised more than $16.8 million since it began, with beneficiaries including Cornwall Regional Hospital, SOS Children's Village, and a scholarship fund.

For travelers who just want to play, a new Unlimited Golf Package covers stays of at least four nights with unrestricted rounds across two courses: the 1962 Robert Trent Jones Sr.-designed Half Moon Golf Course, which stretches to 7,120 yards from the championship tees, and the nearby Cinnamon Hill course on land tied to the historic Rose Hall estate.

Visiting-instructor residencies have become a useful draw for golfers who want more from a Jamaica trip than a booked tee time. Half Moon sits about 15 minutes from Sangster International Airport, close enough to check in and reach the practice range the same day.
