Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts has appointed Robert Fritz as executive chairman, marking a significant leadership transition for the luxury hospitality giant. Meanwhile, founder Isadore Sharp — who built the brand from a single Toronto motor hotel more than 60 years ago — will become chairman emeritus.

Fritz is a longtime executive at Cascade Investment, the Bill Gates-founded firm that holds a majority stake in Four Seasons. He has served as lead director on the Four Seasons board since 2022 and will now work closely with President and CEO Alejandro Reynal to guide the company’s long-term strategy.

The move comes at a pivotal moment for Four Seasons. The company currently operates more than 136 hotels and resorts worldwide, along with 61 residential properties, and has a development pipeline of over 60 projects. The brand has set an ambitious target of reaching 180 properties by 2033.

Sharp’s transition to an emeritus role does not mean a full departure. He will remain closely involved with the company he founded and continue to represent the brand publicly. But the appointment of Fritz signals a new chapter — one focused on accelerating the kind of strategic, large-scale growth that has defined Four Seasons’ recent trajectory.

The luxury resort sector has seen a wave of executive transitions in 2026, with Hyatt recently appointing several new leaders across its Americas and luxury portfolios, and Hilton launching a search for a new chief technology officer. For Four Seasons, bringing in a leader with deep investment and governance experience suggests the brand is positioning itself for its most aggressive expansion phase yet.
