Fairmont Cheshire, The Mere opened on July 10 following a £125 million transformation, marking the first time the luxury brand has planted a flag in North West England.

The countryside estate sits on 157 acres beside The Mere lake just outside Knutsford, Cheshire, and now offers 116 rooms and suites, including 23 suites. Anchoring the dining lineup is Gordon Ramsay at The Mere, joined by an 18-hole championship golf course and a Fairmont Spa. Interiors come from award-winning Bergman Design House, which paired Fairmont's signature polish with local Cheshire character.

The opening expands Fairmont's UK footprint to four properties. It joins The Savoy in London, Fairmont Windsor Park and Fairmont St Andrews, giving the Accor-owned brand its strongest British presence yet.

The debut fits a broader pattern among legacy luxury names, which are increasingly converting or building outside traditional gateway cities to reach travelers who want a countryside base with big-city service standards. A championship golf course and a celebrity-chef restaurant give the property two clear draws beyond the room count, and its lakeside setting an hour from Manchester positions it for both weekend leisure stays and events.
