W Hotels is planting its flag on the Costa Smeralda. W Sardinia — Poltu Quatu officially launches in April 2026 on Sardinia's northeast coast, marking the brand's first property on the island and a major expansion of Marriott's lifestyle footprint in Italy.

The resort brings 154 guestrooms and suites to the yacht-harbor village of Poltu Quatu, set between granite cliffs and the turquoise bays that have defined the Costa Smeralda since the 1960s. The majority of the top suites come with private terrace plunge pools overlooking the marina, and the property was designed by New York studio Meyer Davis around W's signature blend of bold color, local craft, and nightlife-minded public spaces.

A signature dining program leads the launch. The opening team has built the food and beverage lineup around pastry chef Fabrizio Fiorani, whose collaborations anchor three venues — TANIT, a marina-facing seafood restaurant, the W Lounge, and Dolce Room, a dessert-focused concept described as interactive.

The rest of the amenity mix reads like standard W DNA translated to a Mediterranean summer playbook. There's the brand's trademark Wet Deck pool, a FIT fitness center, and an AWAY Spa arriving in time for peak season. Programming will lean heavily on cultural partnerships with Sardinian artisans, chefs, and performers, including guided hikes, pasta workshops, and live music nights.

It's also a strategic move for Marriott. W Sardinia joins W Rome and the recently opened W Florence to give the brand a three-city Italian presence for the first time, pushing into resort territory after years of urban-only growth in the country. Costa Smeralda has long been dominated by older grande-dame hotels and private villa rentals, so the arrival of a contemporary lifestyle brand targeting a younger, design-driven crowd is a noticeable shift for one of Europe's most conservative luxury markets.

Reservations are open for stays beginning in April, with the summer season expected to be the true proving ground once the marina fills with its usual fleet of superyachts.
