Marriott International has announced a joint venture with Lefay, a family-owned Italian luxury wellness brand, marking the hotel giant's first dedicated wellness brand and the 39th in its overall portfolio.

The deal brings two existing Lefay resorts in northern Italy — one on Lake Garda and another in the Dolomites — into the Marriott Bonvoy ecosystem. Both properties are known for their spa-forward approach, combining traditional Italian hospitality with evidence-based wellness programs in natural settings.

Lefay was founded by Domenico Alcide and Liliana Leali, who will retain ownership of the Italian properties while contributing their brand and intellectual property to the venture. Marriott will handle global development, leveraging its distribution network to grow Lefay into new markets.

What's in the Pipeline

Beyond the two Italian resorts, three additional properties are already under development in Tuscany, Southern Italy, and the Swiss Alps. The partnership signals Marriott's intent to compete more aggressively in the luxury wellness segment, where boutique operators have long dominated.

The wellness travel market has surged in recent years, with travelers increasingly seeking retreats that go beyond a standard spa menu. Lefay's model — which integrates fitness, nutrition, and holistic therapies into the core resort experience — fits squarely into that trend.

For Marriott Bonvoy members, the addition means another avenue for earning and redeeming points at high-end wellness properties, a category that has been largely absent from major loyalty programs until now.
