Jakes Hotel in Treasure Beach, Jamaica, has reopened six completely rebuilt oceanfront bungalows this spring, marking the final phase of the property recovery from Hurricane Melissa, which struck the island south coast in October 2025.

The new accommodations split into two categories: three Octopussy Bungalows featuring rooftop terraces with Caribbean Sea views, and three Seapuss Bungalows with outdoor soaking tubs positioned to face the water. All six include private decks, outdoor rainfall showers angled toward the ocean, air conditioning, and high-speed Wi-Fi.

What sets Jakes apart from the island larger all-inclusive competitors is the design approach. Each bungalow differs in layout and detail, with handcrafted interiors featuring sculpted plaster walls in saturated tones, stained glass headboard insets, and batik and African-print textiles. The aesthetic reflects the vision of founder Sally Henzell, who has shaped Jakes into one of Jamaica most distinctive independent properties over the past three decades.

Rates start at approximately $256 per night for an oceanfront bungalow, a fraction of what the island luxury all-inclusives charge. Treasure Beach itself remains one of Jamaica quieter stretches, drawing travelers who prefer community-run tourism over mega-resort enclaves.

The reopening comes as Jamaica hotel sector continues rebuilding from Melissa damage. Several properties across the island have returned to service in recent months, though some larger resorts remain closed into 2027.
