Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts has named Robert Fritz as its new Executive Chairman, marking the end of an era as founder Isadore Sharp transitions to the role of Chairman Emeritus after more than 60 years at the helm of the company he built.

Fritz, a longtime executive with Cascade Investment — the investment vehicle of Bill Gates and the company's majority shareholder — has served as Lead Director on the Four Seasons Board since 2022. In his new role, he will work alongside President and CEO Alejandro Reynal to guide the company's long-term strategic direction.

A Legacy Unmatched in Luxury Hospitality

Sharp founded Four Seasons in 1960 with a single motor hotel in Toronto. Over the following decades, he pioneered the concept of mid-sized luxury hotels with exceptional service, growing the portfolio into one of the most recognized and respected luxury brands in the world. Today, Four Seasons operates more than 130 properties across nearly 50 countries.

His move to an emeritus position doesn't sever ties with the company — Sharp remains connected to the brand he created — but it signals a generational shift in leadership at a pivotal moment for luxury hospitality.

What Comes Next

Under Reynal, who became CEO in 2022, Four Seasons has accelerated its expansion pipeline and pushed into branded residences, yachting, and private jet experiences. Fritz's appointment as Executive Chairman provides continuity with Cascade Investment's vision for the brand while giving Reynal's leadership team a stable governance structure.

The announcement comes as competition in the ultra-luxury hotel segment intensifies, with rivals like Aman, Rosewood, and Marriott's Ritz-Carlton Reserve all aggressively expanding their global footprints.
